Moving Big Stones

Nobody ever said it would be easy.  Due to the narrow doorway and large wall surrounding this courtyard, utilizing a machine was not an option for this very heavy stone (notice the air level of the tires on the cart). We do whatever it takes to get projects done and the finished flagstone patio pictured in this post is a testament to our craftsmanship.

Transformation

With the sod now in place and a new patio from recycled stone from an old project on the property complete, we are finished.  Sod is frankly the ultimate closer.  From the muddy mess of earlier in the week to the finished product that now looks as if it has been there for years, we, and the homeowner,  are very happy with the finished product.  The entire area is also illuminated with low voltage lighting and the pictures are forthcoming on this site.  A new project with the same stone, a great fit for the stone facade and Longwood Garden area locale, is about to begin and we are excited for the chance to beautify another home.  Thanks for checking in.

Finished Fountain with Plantings

This is a finished view of an older post with the area around the fountain planted and mulched to finish off the area.  The perennials are still in need of warmer weather and will soon be far enough along to finish off the area.  The larger stones around the area are from the Bay of Fundy and were an addition at the homeowners request.  We love to incorporate something with value supplied by the client as it adds a dimension of additional involvement in the project.  An irregular sitting area at the base of the steps is under construction and sod, the immediate gratification of the landscape world, is on the way.

More Fun With Millstones

Not only do Millstones make for a great fountain, they are an excellent accent or inlay on a flagstone path.  This is actually a millstone surrounded by belgium block and the finished product gives an "old world" look to the project.  The field of the path is constructed with full color irregular flagstone and is still dirty from mud, which has been relentless this spring.  Once the walk is complete more photos will follow.

Grinding Stone Fountain

A grinding stone fountain reclaimed from a mill in Chester is the cornerstone for this water feature.  We were able to set the stone on a pedestal in order to give the cascading water room to fall into the basin below.  The fact the stone is over 150 years old and locally utilized only adds to the interest of the feature.  This is directly after we initially turned on the feature and is evidence by the murky geyser erupting through the hub of the stone.  This will settle out within a day or two.  The stepping stones are mined from the same quarry that provided the boulders.  More updates will be posted after the plantings and lighting are installed.

Finished Wall and Steps

April 21st

We have completed the actual construction of the wall.  Notice how the small pieces of stone really help to finish off the overall presentation of the wall.  The espalier "Little Gem" Magnolia in the background is an ideal way to break up the monotony of a large wall of siding.  Still finish work to be done around the wall but the job to this point has turned out as beautifully as expected.

The beginning phases of a boulder wall and staircase made from indigenous boulders.  We strive for a clean wall and finished product when all is said and done.  These boulders work so well due to the angular nature of the stone.  Moving right along and should have more photos in the next few days.
